Travel music : Endless memories

Travelling on a budget in Asia equals long bus rides. To get from one place to another, the bus is the most common way of transport. I came to the point where I was like: ‘oh, it’s only an 8 hour bus ride, no problem’. Yep, 8 hours was short. The longest bus ride I took? 28 hours (!) from Vietnam to Laos.  Although that was a little too much for my taste, I still kind of enjoyed the ride. Why? Because I had an MP3 player with music.

My travel music.

Travel music with a view

The music in combination with the stunning views made me zone out completely. My travel music of choice? Deep house. I’m not even that big of a fan of deep house. I discovered it by accident. I copied the playlist of a friend of mine. There was this 1h15m mix in it. But the beginning didn’t really appeal to me, so I skipped that song every single time. Until I suddenly woke up after a nap during one of those long bus rides, and I was in the middle of that mix. Damn. This is good.

I like this. I love this.

From that moment on, it was my go-to-mix on long bus rides, on repeat: Taking you Higher – Mr SuicideSheep.

This guy just mixed together a bunch of different deep house songs, but I really like the result. This is the complete mix:

If you don’t want to listen to the whole mix, here’s my favourite song:

When I listen to my travel music today, I still completely zone out. In my mind I’m in that bus again, staring out the window, taking in all the amazing landscapes. I don’t have a lot of photos of these bus rides, because at a certain point you just stop taking pictures and you’re just in the moment. But when I hear this music, I can actually remember some of those specific mountain roads.

Music is such a powerful thing.
